The European Commission has approved the ESPON 2020 Cooperation Programme on February 12, 2015.

The program provides support under 11th thematic objectives of the cohesion policy by collecting and analysing data affecting territorial development, e.g.: employment and the labour market, investment models, urban and metropolitan areas, demographic changes and climate changes.

These analyses will contribute to explore the new opportunities and growth throughout the 28 EU Member States and partner countries: Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland.

Total Budget of the cooperation programme is EUR 48.6 million with a contribution from the European Union of around EUR 41 million from the European Regional and Development Fund.

The programme is managed by the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Infrastructures Department for Spatial Planning and Development (DATER), Division for European Affairs of Luxembourg

For the implementation of the ESPON 2020 Programme partners decided to establish a Single Beneficiary, the ESPON EGTC.
